I've noticed a trend at some coffee shops of giving customers a little sticker with an adage or thoughtful quip on it along their coffee. I don't go to coffee shops as frequent as some but I went once and was given a sticker that said, "Knowledge talks, wisdom listens."
Perhaps there is nothing this saying is more true with than prayer.
I've heard people complain that God doesn't speak to us as easily as He did in Biblical times. I think we all talk to God but how often do we just come to God and sit before Him in silence? Maybe we don't hear God speaking to us because we don't listen enough.
Solomon, the wisest man in the Old Testament wrote this, "Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. A dream comes when there are many cares, and many words mark the speech of a fool." (Eccl. 5:2)
